How Do I Make Bread in the Crock Pot?

Crock Pot bread is easy to make because the bread rises and cooks at the same time in the slow cooker.

Here are basic instructions for making bread in the crock pot.

  1. Shape your dough into the desired shape. I made my loaf round.
  2. Line crock pot with parchment paper and place dough in middle of paper. Be sure there are no large wrinkles that will stop bread from rising.
  3. Bake on HIGH for 2 hours.
  4. Check bread. The internal temperature should be 190-200 degrees and bread should be brown on the bottom. If you don’t have a thermometer, go by looks. It should be brown on the bottom and the top should not be wet or too soft.
  5. If desired (highly recommend) to brown the top, broil in the oven for 2-4 minutes so that bread has a crusty top.

Keep in mind this is a dough that rises with baking powder so it won’t rise as much as a yeast bread. Plus, the yogurt is heavy. Think of this as similar to a quick bread in texture.

While this isn’t a fluffy bread, the taste is absolutely delicious and has a sourdough-type flavor because of the yogurt.

What if I Don’t Have Self-Rising Flour?

If you don’t have self-rising flour, it’s no problem. Here is the substitute.

Homemade Self-Rising Flour

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • .5 tsp salt
