1907Deputy Sheriff Charles Monroe WebbWhile serving a writ of lunacy issued by Tipton County Judge S.E. Stephenson against John P. Strong, Deputy Sheriffs Louis Ogilvie and Charles M. Webb were both shot by Strong at his home near Atoka while they were trying to apprehend Strong in order to escort him to the Western State Hospital in Bolivar. Charles M. Webb, a resident of Atoka, died soon afterward at the hotel in Atoka from the effects of his wounds.

Mrs. J. P. Faulk, wife of Sheriff Faulk, died at her home in this city Monday evening at 5 o’clock and was buried at Charleston Cemetery in the Fifteenth District Tuesday, Rev. Charles G. Elliott conducting the funeral services. Mrs. Faulk was a daughter of Mr. A. A. Waddell, of the Fifteenth District, and was thirty-six years of age. She was a member of the Baptist church and was a consistent Christian woman, an affectionate wife and kind, gentle and loving mother. Mrs. Faulk leaves three small children, the youngest being an infant only about three months old. The bereaved husband has the sympathy of the entire community in his sad affliction.

SQUIRE RICHARDSON’S COURT | Manny Small, negro, was arrested this week charged with stealing corn from Mr. Will Ruffin. Small was tried before Squire Lauderdale Richardson and bound over to circuit court on a $250 bond. Small was unable to get bond and was taken to jail.

Sidney Jones, Charlie Johnson and Lewis Ross, negroes, were arrested by Deputy Sheriff W. H. Evans, of Rialto, this week for highway robbery. These negroes are alleged to have help up Messrs. C. H. Powell and w. H. Clements and took their watches and what money they had on their person. They were tried before Esp. Lauderdale Richardson and bound over to circuit court on a $500 bond.

Will Small, Will Caldwell, Henry Alston, Bennie White, Robert Blackwell and Grant Hill, negroes, were arrested last week by Deputy Sheriffs J. T. Scott and Sam McClanahan, charged with gaming. They were tried before ‘Squire Richardson and find $2.50 and cost and were released.
