How to get rid of stress marks on bearded dragons? ›

Give your dragon a nice warm bath, followed by cuddles in a soft towel. Simply pause as much noise as possible to give your dragon some quiet time. Try turning off the lights until your dragon is more calm (of course you wouldn't want to leave the tank like this for too long so your dragon doesn't get too cold).

Another bearded dragon, even if they're not housed together, may be interpreted as competition for a bearded dragon and cause stress. New decorations or rearrangement of the vivarium can cause stress. Feeling threatened by its own reflection in the glass can cause stress.

New and young bearded dragons are fast and wily, so use extra caution when handling. Bearded dragons should spend at least 30 minutes outside of their terrarium a day. The more often they are out (without getting cold or away from their UVB bulbs too often) the more docile they can become.

How long do stretch marks take to fade? In general, stretch marks take between six and 12 months to fade. With treatment, they often fade faster.

Not all dark markings are created equal. True stress marks typically appear on the underside of your bearded dragon, resembling dark lines or splotches. They might also come accompanied by a darkened beard. These markings can even look like shapes or symbols.

Changes in routine or environment can cause a bearded dragon to become stressed and disinterested in their food. It's important to keep things as consistent as possible in their enclosure and try not to make any drastic changes if possible.

No signs of aggression

Aggressive behavior is one of the first signs of an unhappy and stressed beardie. If your dragon is calm and relaxed and not showing any signs of aggression, like hissing or puffing when you pick them up, this is a good indication that they are happy overall.

Glass Surfing

This is strange behavior that bearded dragons exhibit in times of boredom and stress. Beardies will run back and forth alongside their enclosure (often a glass tank) and stand on their hind legs trying to run up the side.

Bearded dragons are curious creatures, and licking is one of the ways they explore their environment. While it's often mistaken as a sign of affection, it's actually just a way for them to collect information about their surroundings.

What do bearded dragons like to play with? ›

Your dragon may enjoy riding on a little car, a toy horse, or even a little skateboard. A remote control car can be a lot of fun for them if it doesn't stress them out! Rubber duck. Bath toys are a lot of fun for bearded dragons, both in and out of the water.

Never on their back. This is one of the biggest no-gos in our guide. Bearded Dragons aren't built the same as a lot of other animals and their skeletal structure does not offer much in the way of support when they are on their back.

Bearded dragons usually tolerate handling better than other lizards. Regular handling helps bearded dragons get used to people, so you should handle your beardie daily. Doing so also minimizes stress during regular care, such as bathing or tank cleaning. They are generally gentle and easy to hold.

Always keep their head pointed away from your body and face. If you need additional help to keep your pet calm, consider using natural calming products. They help stressed pets be calmer, attentive, and receptive to their owners without sedating them.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TREATMENT without guidance from your veterinarian. Infectious stomatitis (mouth rot) usually requires injectable antibiotics as well as antiseptic mouth rinses. Dragons who are too painful to eat may also require supplemental feedings.
