Busia County Alumni Chapter Community Service
The Busia County Alumni Chapter held their Community service activity on 12th September 2021. The Community service involved a visit to the vulnerable individuals within the community and give them food, essential products, and offer psychological support. This visit was aimed at giving hope to the people and to give them materials and the right mind set to survive during the hard times.


Kisumu County Alumni Chapter Community Service
The Kisumu County Alumni Chapter began its first Community service under the Kenya Alumni Engagement programme on September 13, 2021. The Chapter organized a two-week training at the Alisam Leather Factory in Kisumu for seven of its members. The team hopes to create a leather factory that produces leather from fish excrement. They predict that a number of job opportunities will be created from this venture. The facility will also aid in the development of a long-term fish waste management system, which will benefit the environment.

The Kenya Alumni Engagement programme is a partnership between Cultural Vistas, the United States and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Kenya. It aims at recruiting alumni of U.S. government-funded programs to help Kenyans address challenges in the nation’s forward progress.

One of the Kenya Alumni Engagement Program’s key objectives is to promote peace and security, economic empowerment, and the rule of law through alumni-driven community service projects, speaker series, mentorship programs, and county alumni chapters.


Murang’a County Alumni Chapter
The Murang’a County Alumni Chapter held its Community service activity on 17th September 2021. The team visited PeterKariuki Primary School, Kabati. The project was borne out of the need to empower young girls and boys and help them to overcome stigmatization, abuse and mental health challenges.

Mombasa Community Service Project
The Kenya Alumni Engagement Program, Mombasa County Alumni Chapter, held a community service project to promote peace and security. The programme provided a forum for young people to interact with security professionals in their area.


Nairobi Community Service Project
As part of the Kenya Alumni Engagement Programme, the Nairobi County Alumni Chapter visited Shadow Mountain Children’s Home in Nairobi. A team from DeKUT and police officers donated food to the children and interacted with them to promote community linkages in the area.


Laikipia County Alumni Chapter
The Laikipia County Alumni Chapter conducted their community service activity on 20th September, 2021. Their community service was in form of mentorship where they visited three secondary schools located in Laikipia County. During this activity they educated teenage girls and boys on the dangers and effects of: Female genital mutilation (FGM), early marriages and teenage pregnancies. They also gave academic mentorship to the teenagers and advised them on the essence of education and its impacts.


Uasin Gishu Alumni Chapter
The Uasin Gishu Chapter and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology arranged a community service project at Rift Valley Technical Training Institute under the Kenya Alumni Engagement programme, where they donated an incubator to help with the poultry farming initiative. The project intends to help the vulnerable people in Uasin Gishu earn some money to pay their NHIF contributions more efficiently and provide job opportunities.


West Pokot Alumni Chapter
As part of the Kenya Alumni Engagement programme, the West Pokot Chapter organized a community service project to train farmers on all aspects of crop production and livestock management value chains, market linkage platform, climate smart technology, innovation and management practices, agricultural project and project management.
The goal was to promote agricultural commercial viability, food security, poverty alleviation, and wealth creation, hence improving people’s livelihoods in West Pokot County.


Embu Community Alumni Chapter
As part of the Kenya Alumni Engagement Program mentorship and community service projects, the Embu County Chapter organised a community service project at the Embu Children’s Home. They provided food, stationery, clothing, and other necessities. One of the programme’s objectives is to promote Peace and Security, Economic Empowerment, Health and the Rule of Law through community service projects, speaker series, mentorship programs and County Alumni Chapters.


Machakos Community Alumni Chapter
The Machakos County Alumni Chapter conducted their community service activity on 25th Septemeber 2021 at Katumani Secondary School, Machakos. The team conducted mentorship and donations of some stuff such as sanitary towels for the girls and boys for the gents, did a mental health talk and then planted trees to commemorate the event.
